The Look and Feel

We at, like many of you, are amateur baseball players.  That doesn’t mean we use amateur baseball equipment.  We are just as passionate about our game as we are about our gear.  We know that the right equipment is fundamental to our success.  When you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you play good.

Our mission is to help you find the best equipment from the premier glove, bat, batting glove, cleat, and other baseball equipment manufacturers around.  The best way to find the best equipment is to consult the true professionals, the superstars of Major League Baseball.  We bring you the most accurate and up-to-date information on pro gloves, pro bats, pro cleats, and other Major League equipment, and show you where you can find them so you can add them to your game.

We will do our absolute best to keep information accurate and up-to-date, but just like you, Major League players make changes in their batting stance and sometimes in their equipment choices.  If you have any tips for us or corrections, please let us know.  We are dedicated to making this the best venue in the world for information on What Pros Wear.

Who We Are…

Mike Carozza, Founder

Pitching until my arm falls off.

My name is Mike–I’m a ballplayer.  Grew up in New York, live in San Francisco, and still play in a men’s wood bat league, the SFNABA.

I have always been a sucker for style and swagger on the ballfield, which is why some of my all-time favorite ballplayers are Griffey, Jeter, Andruw Jones, Carlos Beltran—guys that not only play the game hard, but make it look good.

Growing up, I cocked my hat to the side like Mike Cameron, slapped my glove on my leg like Rickey Henderson, flipped the ball in underhand like Andruw Jones, and wore (and still wear) my favorite player, Ken Griffey, Jr.’s Rawlings PROTB24.  We always tried to emulate our heroes as I’m sure you do too.

Just like we’d talk gloves in the dugout, I always thought an online community for this kind of thing would be a fun and informative way for ballplayers all over the world to see what the pros wear, and figure out for themselves how to add those tools to their game.

I hope you all enjoy this stuff as much as I do, and please drop me a line (or e-mail me) if you have any suggestions of any sort.

Also, I’m always looking for researchers, and welcome any info on specific players you want to see, or corrections on the players already featured (I will most definitely shout you out).  The community aspect makes this a much more dynamic source of information and will help sustain for many seasons to come.

Jake Perkins, Social Media

From Jake: “Much like Mike, I’m a lifetime ballplayer.  I played my college ball at a D-II school in Mass, and I currently play in a wood bat league.  My glory days may be behind me, but I’ll be damned if I’m not going to look fresh jogging to first after a bloop single.

I’ve always subscribed to the theory ‘look good, play good,’ which, like a lot of you, meant I was always harassing my parents for the newest Nike cleats, even when I didn’t need them.  It also means that I’m constantly trying to find the newest and freshest gear to wear on the diamond, and I always show the best of the best on WPW’s Instagram account.

As far as WPW goes, I’m constantly digging for good Instagram material and would be thrilled to hear from you if you find something notable.  If you think you have a photo or anything that belongs here, or on our Instagram, definitely shoot me an email here.

I was wondering if you could tell me what the brand of the arm sleeve that Evan longoria, jacoby ellsbury and Chris Getz wears. It’s like an arm warmer. Many Texas rangers wore them in the 2011 playoffs. Thanks!

WPW, you guys should do an article on a sponsored guy like Adam Jones, and the process he goes through to create (or tell nike how to create) his sick cleats with nasty prints that you cannot get if you were to customize on Nikeid. I think this is a great idea.

    September 14, 2013 at 9:24 pm

Awesome website for baseball equipment “junkies” like myself. Any word on the new glove Puig was using last night in Game 3 of the NLDS? It was not his old Wilson A2000 with the “Y” web. I noticed it was red, and blue mostly. Perhaps it was still the same Wilson A2000 with a different color scheme. Hopefully that is the case because how cool is it to have a nice pro quality glove, in your team colors, with a web that has your first name initial on it!
